The devastation of recent hurricanes, tornadoes right here in New Jersey, and of course superstorm Sandy, all weather-related disasters that are becoming more frequent. In fact, it is estimated that one out of three Americans has been affected by a weather disaster. That is why it is so important to be ready in advance.

September is National Preparedness Month. If you had to leave home in a hurry, or you were stuck in your home, would you have the items you need? In an emergency when you are moving quickly and concerned for your safety, it is tough to gather items such as a flashlight, water, non-perishable foods, medications, and even a cell phone charger. These are just a few of the many items that should be included in an emergency preparedness kit, also known as a Go-Bag.  The American Red Cross wants to test your knowledge on what should be in your kit. Take their short quiz and get the full list of items to pack in your kit.

Remember, the time to prepare for an emergency is before it happens.
