Picture this, you are at an outdoor party or event on a hot summer day.  You are enjoying a few cold beers or alcohol of your choice. Although you might be drinking in moderation and, there is one side effect from alcohol you might not consider...dehydration.  It can lead to dizziness, a dry mouth, and fatigue. We perspire more during the summer and lose fluid more quickly. Since alcohol is a diuretic, it can make dehydration even worse.

The best way to stay hydrated before an outdoor party or a night at the bar is to drink plenty of water. Make sure you drink a glass of water before drinking any alcohol and drink a full glass of water between alcoholic beverages, and never drink on an empty stomach. As our body loses fluids, it also loses electrolytes which are minerals in our bloodstream and body fluids that affect how our muscles and nerves work. If you already start to feel dehydrated, try an electrolyte replacement drink, but watch the sugar content. That can defeat the purpose since sugar and sweets make us thirsty.

Of course, when we drink too much alcohol, dehydration is just one of many complications related to alcohol. Here are some tips from Web MD on staying hydrated this summer.
