Smoke can be seen through most of the state as a forest fire rips through the pine barrens. According to APP.com, "...[A] major fire in Penn State Forest in Burlington County..." broke out earlier today. Crews are battling the blaze to control the spreading.

Route 72 has been shut down from Route 539 west as a result. Authorities fear that the fire could burn thousands of acres before they can control it. As of now there appears to be no threat to property.

NJ.com reported that the fire began around 1:45PM.
