While laser spine surgery has been around since the 1960's, recently it has been getting more attention. Lasers in spinal surgery are used to cut and coagulate, but spine surgery still involves traditional approaches such as an incision, the moving of muscles, and bone being cut away.
Dr. Kris Radcliff, Orthopedic Surgeon with the Rothman Institute, explains that lasers may not always be the best option when it comes to minimally invasive spine surgery. Yet, new minimally invasive procedures can lead to better outcomes.
