Today is National Zoo Lovers Day, a time to celebrate the many amazing zoos in our area. Zoos provide an up close and educational experience for kids and adults alike to learn about animals from all over the world.

    Cape May County Park and Zoo

    The CMC Zoo is home to over 500 animals representing about 250 species. The zoo offers a number of encounters including: giraffe, otter, camel, primate, and aviary. Admission is free, however they do ask for a donation to keep the zoo running.

    Seaport Aquarium - Wildwood

    Located on the Wildwood boardwalk, this aquarium opens Easter weekend through the fall. They have a variety of fish, reptiles, amphibians, and even small land mammals.

    Funny Farm Rescue - Mays Landing

    Funny Farm is a unique place to visit in South Jersey, they serve as a sanctuary for unwanted farm animals. The farm prides itself on, "...[Sheltering] and [caring] for unwanted, sick, elderly, injured, and abused animals since 2000." They are home to over 550 animals.

    Adventure Aquarium - Camden

    Formally known as the Camden Aquarium, this South Jersey aquarium is home to over 15,000 animals including hippos, penguins, and sharks. They offer different encounters including: penguin, in water shark and stingray, and sea turtle.

    Cohanzick Zoo - Bridgeton

    This zoo opened up in 1934 and is called New Jersey's first zoo. They are home to over 45 species with about 100 animals. Like CMC Zoo, admission is free and rely on their volunteers and donations.

    Atlantic City Aquarium

    Located on the waterfront in Gardner's Basin, the Atlantic City Aquarium features both tropical and local animals. The aquarium is home to exhibits including: shark touch tank, moon jellies, Mid-Atlantic coastal touch tank, and eels.

    Popcorn Park Zoo - Forked River

    Popcorn Park Zoo has been "...[A] sanctuary for animals who faced desperate circumstances and/or death...since 1977." The zoo is home to exotic, native, and farm animals. Many of the animals you can feed with popcorn for sale at the zoo. The property is also home to an Associated Humane Society animal shelter.
