73-Year-Old Surfer Dies After Sustaining Fatal Head Injury on Avalon Beach
A 73-year-old man body surfing off the coast in Avalon reportedly hit his head and died from his injuries.
The accident happened Thursday afternoon just after 6 p.m., reports 6abc.com. Avalon Police responded to calls of a potential drowning situation near 21st St. and the beach. The man, a resident of York, Pennsylvania was reportedly swept up by a big wave and hit his head on ground below the water, according to witnesses at the scene.
Those witnesses and emergency responders to tried to revive the man with CPR, but he was pronounced dead after being taken to receive treatment at Cape Regional Medical Center in Cape May Court House. Police have not released his name.
There were reportedly no lifeguards on duty at the time of the incident.
