Woman Stabbed at 55-and-Over Community, Neighbor Charged with Attempted Murder
A 68-year-old Washington Township woman has been charged with attempted murder after allegedly stabbing her neighbor in a South Jersey adult community.
Police responded to The Maples, a 55-and-over community, shortly before 8 p.m. Friday night after reports of an assault.
Upon arrival officers found a woman "lying in the driveway suffering from multiple stab wounds," according to a Washington Twp. police department Facebook post.
Suspect Isabella Chechio refused to come out of her home when confronted, and the county SWAT team had to be called to force her out, reports Courier Post. She reportedly exhibited self-inflicted stab injuries.
Both Cherchio and the victim, who has not been identified, were taken to nearby hospitals for treatment, but their conditions are unknown at this time. Chechio faces charges on attempted murder, aggravated assault and possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose.
Police have not revealed a motive for the altercation.
