Authorities in Morris County, New Jersey have officially charged a woman in the death of a baby girl who was left in a hot car last month.

It's the kind of tragic story we all dread but know is inevitable when summer weather arrives and leaves us asking, 'Will anyone ever learn?'

This latest act of negligence happened during the early afternoon hours of Wednesday, July 17, Patch.com reports, when police in East Hanover, NJ investigated reports of an infant who was left alone in a vehicle as temperatures that day swelled to the upper 80s/low 90s.

Police say the little girl was inside the car for more than four hours, according to Patch.com.

After being freed from the vehicle, the baby was tended to by first responders, but they were reportedly performed lifesaving measures that proved unsuccessful, and she was later pronounced dead at a nearby medical center.

The mother of the child has been identified as 33-year-old Livia Patelli. She has been charged in her baby's death by the Morris County Prosecutor's Office for Endangering the Welfare of a Child in the Second Degree.

Even with the arrest and charging of Livia Patelli, the case remains an open investigation. East Hanover Police Department asks anyone with relevant information call them at 973-887-0432 or the Morris County Prosecutor’s Office at 973-285-6200.
