It's known as the Devil's Tree, and it has a chilling past.

Legend has it that the farmer who owned the property the tree is on, could not afford to feed his family. One day he took them out to the tree for a "picnic" where he killed them and hanged himself.

Other accounts say that the KKK and also devil worshipers used the tree as a rally point for violence and worship.

There is also a rock at the base of the tree that is consistently hot. People say that even in the winter time when the ground is covered with snow, the area around the tree is snow free and unusually warm.

So many people have unsuccessfully tried to cut down the Devil's Tree that a length of chain link fencing has been wrapped around the base to keep it from happening again. It has been told that those who attempt to cut or chop down the tree is met with immediate bad luck. Still others claim that they are followed by a mysterious black truck when they visit the tree after dark, only to disappear when they get around a bend in the road.
