A Mother and her infant daughter were rescued over the weekend, but it was what happened prior to the rescue that's making me scratch my head.

Just before 5:00 yesterday evening, 24-year-old Patricia Shurig allegedly threw her two-month old daughter into the water in Atlantic City.  Shurig then jumped into the water herself. The incident took place on Pacific Avenue at the inlet.

Seth Perkins and several of his retired fistherman friends and family were resting on the beach, when they witnessed what took place.  They immediately sprung into action and rescued both the Mother and infant.

Tom Bell, a retired firefighter, immediately gave the baby CPR.  Police say Patricia Shurig and the baby girl were later taken to AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center City Division for treatment. (NBC 40)

While these men should be commended for their bravery in this matter, questions still remain as to why the Mother threw her daughter into the ocean, and why did she decide to jump as well? Regardless, charges against Shurig are expected. Her bail has been set at $100,000.
