Galloway Twp. Cop Lucky to be Alive After Hit-and-Run Accident

The Galloway Township Police Department says one of their officers escaped serious injuries after being struck by a hit-and-run Jeep Thursday night.

The scene unfolded at around 11:30 PM, according to officials when GTPD Sgt. Patrick Neal was assisting a driver whose vehicle had broken down on East Jimmie Leeds Road near Second Avenue. While helping that driver, Neal was struck by a white Jeep Wrangler that fled from the area.

Police say, "Sergeant Neal’s left hand and wrist were struck by the vehicle as it sped by. The vehicle ... fled westbound and has not been located as of this time. Sgt. Neal observed the vehicle a split second before and stepped back, likely saving his life or avoiding serious bodily injury, as a result of being struck by the vehicle."

Neal was taken to Atlanticare Regional Medical Center-Mainland for treatment; he was released and is said to be in good condition.

The Galloway Township Police Department is asking for help finding the white Jeep and its driver. Anyone with information is urged to contact police at (609) 652-3705.
