WATCH: MLB’s Dramatic Field of Dreams Game Intro Was a Homerun

"Is this heaven"? Excuse me, while I get a little misty-eyed about professional baseball for the first time in a while.

Major League Baseball visited the site of the beloved film, Field of Dreams, with the New York Yankees and the Chicago White Sox playing Thursday night on a new field in Dyersville, Iowa, near the original used in the movie's filming -- a backdrop steeped in all the nostalgia the film itself evoked.

The introduction to the game was an emotional reenactment of a scene from the movie, as the players followed Kevin Costner emerging from rows of corn and walking slowly across the field reminiscing.

Kevin Costner, who starred in the 1989 film as Ray Kinsella, an Iowa farmer who heard a voice beckoning through the swaying rows of corn saying: "If you build it, he will come."

Kinsella convinced that by building a diamond in his crops he will summon the spirit of legendary ballplayer Shoeless Joe Jackson, sets out to do so with the support of his wife and daughter, despite the financial hardship it places upon the family.

The movie remains a favorite for many baseball fans.

Thursday night, players joined Costner on the diamond, welcomed by a rousing cinematic score and the 8,000 fans in attendance as he gave a heartfelt speech remembering the spirit of the movie and the completion of making a reality of playing a big-league game on a baseball field built where a cornfield once stood.
