Historic Blackwood NJ Bank Undergoing Creative Transformation
The old Blackwood National Bank in Gloucester Township is undergoing renovation inside and out and will be transformed into a creative community space.
This building is kind of a local artifact, and has been around since 1911!
It hasn't been a bank for quite some time, but a few different businesses have occupied the space over the last several years, including a dance studio.
But, according to 42freeway.com, the bank, located at the corner of Church Street and Black Horse Pike, is set to become a community arts and entertainment center. What a wonderful reimagining!
It will allow Gloucester Township residents and non-profits a space to hold special events, such as community movie nights, lectures, art shows, and more, 42 Freeway reports.
The building just next door, between the bank and Holy Tomato Pie restaurant, will be demolished to accommodate expansion plans.
I grew up in Gloucester Township, and still pass this bank several times a month, so I'm glad to see something useful will be done with a beautiful building, because there just aren't many that look like old Blackwood National Bank anymore.
I personally can't wait to see how this project develops. My dad was an avid painter, and I've always thought about showcasing his works in a place like this, so who knows? Maybe I'll put that together once this space opens!
