6 Friendly’s Menu Items I’ll Miss if They Don’t Recover from Bankruptcy
Friendly's has been dwindling in our area over the last few years. The news of the restaurant chain officially filing for bankruptcy this week, could mean even more will close. That's got me bummed out.
There are currently less than 10 Friendly's restaurants operating in South Jersey. Luckily, there's still one near where I grew up at the Gloucester Township Premium Outlets. As a kid, my family frequented the one on Blackwood-Clementon Rd. that's no longer in business. It's just a vacant, sad building with the big red 'Friendly's' sign out front. We had a lot of good memories there.
There are sooooo much food I love on the Friendly's menu, not to mention the ice cream! Duh, that's what they're known for, right?
Here are the six Friendly's menu items I'll miss most if they don't recover from bankruptcy:
Grilled Chicken Sandwich -- The cheddar cheese and creamy mayo? It's about as simply as it gets but perfect every time. Nom, nom, nom.
Fried Shrimp Platter -- I craved this on the regular. It's a really generous portion, but the shrimp weren't too overwhelming.
Turkey Club Supermelt -- OMG, I LIVE for Friendly's Supermelts. I'd beg my parents to take me there for one after every football game I cheered at. It was my 'recovery' food, lol. I had never had a deli sandwich toasted like that before, and it was a game changer when Friendly's put them on the menu.
French Fries -- Friendly's shoestring French fries are in my personal French fry Hall of Fame. Always crispy and hot, I'd drench them in ketchup. Love, love.
Reese's Peanut Butter Cup Sundae -- Ice cream, peanut butter sauce, hot fudge, full-size Reese's cups, and whipped cream. Boom! Nothing on earth beats it.
Butter Brickle Ice Cream -- No one makes a Butter Brickle like Friendly's. It reminds me of my Grandmom. We both really enjoyed just a scoop or two of the buttery goodness, no toppings needed.
Ok, yes, I can find those dishes being served at many other places. But, they're not FRIENDLY'S, and that means there will always been room for comparison.
