Central and North Jersey Placed on Drought Watch
Northern and central New Jersey have been placed on drought watch as of Monday.
Philly.com reports the watch was ordered by the state Department of Environmental Protection.
So far, this advisory covers: Bergen, Essex, Hunterdon, Hudson, Mercer, Middlesex, Morris, Passaic, Somerset, Sussex, Union and Warren counties.
These areas were placed on watch to encourage residents to start conserving water. One suggestion mentioned by Philly.com, is to water lawns and landscape only twice a week for 30 minutes versus in the morning or late evening.
According to reports, the watch was issued when precipitation dropped 40% below average in the last 90 days.
There aren't any reports about South Jersey being placed on drought, but still a good piece of information to keep in the back of our minds.
