UPDATE: Watch New Video of Controversial Vineland Police Custody Death
32-year-old Phillip White died while in the custody of Vineland Police last month, now new video has emerged showing his violent arrest.
An officer in the witness surveillance video can be heard encouraging a K-9 unti to 'get him, get him', while White is handcuffed and face down on the ground. The officer is also seen punching the suspect in further effort to get White to comply.
The video was captured on a smartphone on March 31st, 6abc.com reports, while police were responding to a call to Grape St. in Vineland where residents reported White on the sidewalk acting strange. Investigators say White had initially resisted arrest, even reaching to grab an officer's gun.
That video was released by 6abc.com just before White's viewing services took place Tuesday night.
The officers, identified as Louis Platania and Richard Janasiak, have been placed on administrative leave.
White was rushed to the hospital following his arrest, he later died. No cause of death has been made public.
Cyber hackers unhappy with the situation posted personal information of the officers involved online. The hackers have also threatened an attack on the Cumberland County Prosecutor's Office, a threat the department is taking seriously.
