Disturbing New Video Shows Deadly Police Shooting in Bridgeton
New, graphic video footage from the dashboard cam of a Bridgeton police cruiser shows the moments leading up to last month's deadly shooting of Jerame Reid.
Officer Braheme Days and Roger Worley pulled over two men in a car the night of December 30, a traffic stop that quickly escalated.
36-year old Reid was ordered several times not to move before he appears in the video to push his way out of the passenger side door.
Footage shows Reid with his hands in front of him, unarmed according to witnesses. Then as he stands to exit the vehicle he and is shot and killed by the officers.
Prosecutors say a gun was recovered at the scene, 6abc.com reports, but there has been no confirmation that weapon belonged to the victim.
Records show Reid was arrested last summer by Officer Days for drug possession and resisting arrest.
Local activists say this was less a case of deadly force, and more clearly a case of excessive force.
With tensions still high following the controversial shooting of Michael Brown in Ferguson, Missouri and the choking death of Eric Garner in New York City, both at the hands of police, Bridgeton may find itself under a microscope with this latest incident, and future protests seem likely.
