The flu season has absolutely taken over South Jersey.  This is the worst case we've seen in years.  While it may be too late do some things to avoid getting sick, there are still things you can do to stay healthy....

Stay Home From Work

I know what you're thinking....

'Tom said I can stay home from work to avoid the flu, therefore I will not be going to work today, tomorrow, or next week.   I'm going to go watch season 3 of Babylon 5 on DVD'.

Not exactly....

If you feel sick, don't be a hero.  You may think you're scoring brownie points with the boss by coming to work no matter what.  But in the end, you're only going to make everybody sick, which will lead to everyone finding ways to get you back.   I'm pretty sure I got Heather DeLuca sick, she fired back with this.

When in Doubt, Disinfect.

Remember that clean freak that sits next to you? You made fun of him didn't you?  Now he's getting the last laugh.  His different flavors and sizes of Lysol Disinfecting Wipes not only got him an overly clean desk that is free of germs and bacteria, but he's also healthy.  You on the other hand are still trying to spit out that snot that's dangling in your throat.

Stop touching your face

Your hands have been everywhere.  Please don't tell me.  I don't want to know.  That's why it's better to be safe than sorry.  Keep your hands washed, and stop touching that beautiful face of yours.

Sleep

They say sleeping is another word for 'healing'.  Your entire body needs to heal from the day's events.  Sleep increases the immune system, and quite frankly, makes you feel better.  Make sure to take vitamins when you wake up the next morning.  If you can, avoid too much alcohol, it can only damage the immune system.

Get a Flu Shot

You should have totally done this back in October (I didn't get one).  It takes about thirty days for the flu shot to take effect.  It may be January, but experts are saying that the flu shot is still the best defense.  As much as I hate needles, I'm going to go ahead and go for it.  After all, I have nothing to lose at this point.

Do you have any other remedies or tips to avoid the flu?
