Thief Uses Stolen Credit Cards to Purchase $18,000 in Gift Cards
Police are searching for the identity theft suspect who is wanted after stealing credit cards to purchase over $18,000 in gift cards.
6abc News says, the suspect stole a woman's wallet from the Promenade Shopping Center in Marlton in July 30.
The woman noticed that the suspect charged exactly $18,074.92 in GIFT CARDS at five different Targets in Camden and Gloucester County. That's a pretty high amount to rack up in a short period of time!
It sounds pretty bizarre to purchase gift cards versus just making outrageous purchases on her card. At the same time it entirely makes sense, because you're able to extract the money from the credit card. This only makes me even more cautious now when I'm out and about shopping!
For now, Evesham Township police have released a surveillance photo of the thief and ask residents for help identifying the suspect.
Anyone with information is asked to contact the Evesham Township Police Department at 856-983-1116, the Confidential Tip Line at 856-983-4699 or email at Facebook@Eveshampd.org. Anonymous tips text ETPDTIP to 847411.
