The E-A-G-L-E-S 2011 season was suppose to be the year of high expectations.  Visions of the Super Bowl was dancing in the heads of all Philadelphia Eagles fans and players.  The dream season began as a 1-4 nightmare that had them in a hold deemed improbable to recover from.  A couple of weeks ago, the team's playoffs chances were just about zero with their 4-8 record.  Today the patient may be on life support, but the Eagles chances of making to the post season are still alive.

This Sunday's win over the New York Jets (45-19) may have been their most dominating performance of the season.  The team's 6-8 record is nothing special, but an early Xmas gift was delivered by the Washington Redskins this past Sunday when they shocked the New York Giants 23-10.   A Giants win would have closed the door on their 2011 season, but there is a small crack for the Eagles to somehow pull off the absolute unthinkable - make the playoffs with an 8-8 record.

The Eagles finish the season with the Dallas Cowboys this week, and the Redskins in the finale.  The 1st step for the Eagles is they have to defeat the Cowboys, and the Jets must beat the Giants.  Should that happen then the Eagles 2nd step is that they must defeat the Skins while the Giants defeat the Cowboys in the last week of the season.

This scenario would have the Eagles tied with the Giants and Cowboys with 8-8 records.  The 3-way tie breaker goes to the NFC East Division record - the Eagles would be 5-1 in the division and win the tie-breaker.

From the jaws of the most disappointing season in head coach Andy Reed's 13 seasons would come the unthinkable - the elusive playoff berth for the E-A-G-L-E-S!  The odds of this perfect storm still seems far fetched, but if you believe in Christmas miracles...........

Remember that the Giants have lost 5 of their last 6 - a Jets loss forces to beat the Cowboys to even have a chance to steal the NFC East title.  The Cowboys have also been inconsistent.  Crazier things have happened in the annals of Philly sports.  Amazingly the Eagles still have something to play for - enjoy the moment while you can.
