The Movie Trailer That Made Me Realize I’m Still a Kid at Heart
There must be something wrong with me, because THAT has never happened before...
...ok, so maybe that's a lie.
I'd like to start off by saying yes I am an emotional person, but I do not weep often, especially for movies. But every now and then you come across a movie or a movie trailer that just turns the switch on and makes you tear up.
Disney is at it again.
On Monday a brand-new trailer for Mary Poppins Returns dropped, and man did it bring on the water works.
I wasn't a big Mary Poppins fan when I was young, but after watching this trailer I feel like I probably should have.
The film stars Emily Blunt, Lin-Manuel Miranda, Ben Whishaw, Emily Mortimer, and legends Dick Van Dyke and Meryl Streep.
The idea around this magical person (literally) flying into your life and helping you out, getting you through the rough patches, and reminding us that while life can sometimes be tough and throw a few curveballs your way, you should always try to swing at your problems and remember that you have teammates that will help you through this.
Seeing the famous green kite in the trash absolutely killed me. Nothing says growing up more that that imagery, but just because you get older and now have wrinkles doesn't mean you have to file away your inner child. It is ok to have fun sometimes.
But if you plan on seeing this movie you might want to go watch another Disney-made Poppins movie, Saving Mr. Banks.
That movie goes into the history of the author P.L. Travers, the mind behind Mary Poppins, and her refusal to sell her rights to Walt Disney to make a movie of her character, due to the importance and relationship the character Mr. Banks has with her own father.
Needless to say Mary Poppins returns looks to be a real nostalgia trip, tugging on those heart strings every moment it gets.
