New Jersey's only volcano is in Northern New Jersey, in Wantage Township, Sussex County. If you didn't know it was there, you would probably miss it.

It's a place called Rutan Hill and it's just off Volcanic Hill Road.

The volcano collapsed millions of years ago (bummer) so it's just a volcanic crater and a rim now but is still, technically, a volcano.

The house in the picture is along the ridge of the rim of the collapsed volcano. Pretty cool.

No word on whether or not it could erupt, but my guess is that we are pretty safe...for a while.

Check out some more amazing nature in New Jersey. Remember the derecho from 2012?
