Miss New York Wins the Miss America Pageant

Wait, where have I seen this headline before?

For the third year in a row, Miss New York is your Miss America.

Kira Kazantsev, 22, won the crown and a $50,000 scholarship last night at the 94th Annual Miss America Pageant at Boardwalk Hall last night.  She chose domestic abuse as her platform, because she was once abused.  She also chose this subject to empower other victims and to seek support.

"It's not about me it's about them," she said. However, Kazantsev said her personal experiences will help her relate to other victims. (Press of Atlantic City)

Fourth runner up was  Miss Massachusetts Lauren Kuhn, third runner up Miss Florida Victoria Cowen, second runner up Miss Arkansas Ashton Campbell,  and first runner up Miss Virginia Courtney Paige Garrett.

Miss New Jersey, Cierra Kaler-Jones of Galloway, was one contestant South Jersey had their eyes on..  Another contestant was Miss Delaware.  Brittany Lewis is a native of Brigantine, and a Holy Spirit High School graduate.  Her platform was also domestic violence abuse, as her sister was shot and killed after a 5 year violent relationship.

Congrats again to Kira Kazantsev, your Miss America 2015!  Will New Jersey ever end New York's winning streak? We'll just have to wait and find out again next year at Boardwalk Hall!
