‘How I Met Your Mother’ Spinoff Reportedly in the Works, Hollywood Has No Shame
In Hollywood's latest attempt to replicate the success of a now defunct television show, a female-led spinoff for How I Met Your Mother is reportedly in the works.
For those of you who are forgetful, here's a reminder: How I Met Your Mother enraged viewers everywhere with its lackluster final episode, which aired on March 31, 2014. That means the sitcom was on air as recently as two years ago, or -- more specifically -- 32 months ago. Not much time has passed since angry think pieces flooded the Internet immediately following the show's finale, but apparently it's never too early to revisit a recent success.
To be fair, however, it appears the spinoff project -- reportedly titled How I Met Your Father -- will only borrow the show's premise and storytelling and nothing more. It “is an ensemble show that tells the story from a female point of view. It is a brand new take on the premise with new characters and new writers,” according to Deadline.
Those new writers will include This Is Us co-executive producers Isaac Aptaker and Elizabeth Berger.
This marks the second time a How I Met Your Mother spinoff has tried to get off the ground. Back in 2014, CBS failed to pick up a pilot called How I Met Your Dad, starring Greta Gerwig with narration by Meg Ryan. Despite several attempts at negotiation, the project ultimately didn't pan out.
