Historic Galloway NJ Church Dismantled and Given New Home

You know that tiny green and white church on the corner of White Horse Pike and Genoa Ave. in Galloway? Yeah, it's not there anymore.

I live pretty close to the Pomona Union Presbyterian Church. I would pass by it at least three times a week. Since moving to Galloway in 2010, I've loved its charm. It harkens back to another time.

I think when I first came to town, the church was still holding services, but I can't remember for sure. Nonetheless, its presence has always calmed me. I can't explain why.

Recently, that whole area of the White Horse Pike between Genoa Ave. and Jimmie Leeds Road has been under construction as a new shopping center is being built next to the CVS.

On Thursday afternoon, I was stopped at Genoa Ave. ready to cross the White Horse Pike, and noticed the lot where the church sat was suddenly EMPTY! I thought it had been demolished and I was kind of heartbroken. "Just another casualty of progress," I thought. Luckily, my worry was short-lived.

Press of Atlantic City reports the church was actually preserved! It was dismantled and moved to Smithville.

Turns out Pomona Union Presbyterian has been around since the early 20th century, according to Press of AC, and deemed historic. It now sits on a brand new foundation near Smithville Bakery off Moss Mill Road.

Pretty cool, huh?
