Diego was a member of the Hammonton Police for 11 years, before retiring in 2017.

Sergeant Thomas Percodani of the Hammonton Police received Diego in 2006 from the Sons of Italy Hammonton and they began their career together.

For eleven years, Diego was the back up for officers whether it be for narcotics, apprehension, or just a town event.

Finally in 2017, Diego wanted to retire and just relax at home with his family. For the next 2 years he got to relax but still wanted to go with Sgt Percodani every time he left the house for work.

Here is a copy of the posting on the Hammonton Police Facebook page remembering K9 Diego.

K9 Diego, Hammonton Police, NJ

End of Watch: Monday February 3rd, 2020

It is with great sadness we had to say Goodbye to Police K9 Diego.

Sergeant Thomas Percodani of the Hammonton Police received Diego in 2006 from the Sons of Italy Hammonton NJLodge 1658 and they began their career together. For eleven years, Diego was the back up for officers whether it be for narcotics, apprehension, or just a town event. Every time Sgt Percodani would attempt to talk on the radio, Diego always tried to talk over him. Finally in 2017, Diego wanted to retire and just relax at home with his family. For the next 2 years he got to relax but still wanted to go with Sgt Percodani every time he left the house for work.

Many of us may say that Diego “crossed over the rainbow bridge,” but for us as a Police Officer, we call it “end of watch.”

Hammonton Police K9 Diego’s End of Watch was Monday February 3rd, 2020. Diego ended his watch surrounded by family, both work and home. Thank you to the Animal Clinic of Hammonton for such hospitality and making Diego comfortable.

Diego, keep watch over all of us and protect the ones that are up there with you. There’s a piece missing from all of our hearts but just know you were loved by everyone.
