A Female Perspective on the Super Bowl Halftime Show

When it comes to the Super Bowl halftime show, you can't make everyone happy. I have yet to see a halftime show that everyone flat out loves. It's fine, we all have our own tastes in music and art. That's what makes music so great, no opinion is wrong. I don't care if you enjoyed the music aspect of the show or not, I want to talk about the complaints about wardrobe and dancing.

Do I consider myself a feminist? No, because when you hear the word feminist many people have a negative reaction. However, I am a woman so I feel like I am well equipped to speak on this matter.

There was nothing wrong with what Jennifer Lopez and Shakira were wearing.

Pop stars have been dressing this way for decades, this is nothing new. When you dance as much as these singers do, too much clothing just gets in the way. They had tights on and bodysuits on, so a wardrobe malfunction was out of the question. Sorry, JT.

Last year, we had a shirtless Adam Levine circling his hips.

Lady Gaga wore a bodysuit and tiny two pieces back in 2017.

Let's not forget the Rolling Stones performed back in 2006, nobody dances more provocatively than Mick Jagger.

Let's all be honest with ourselves, there are many cases in life where we get offended just to be offended. We get mad at things just to get mad and to suit an argument or to play devil's advocate because you feel like disagreeing with someone. I do it all of the time. If you had an issue with last night's halftime show, you must have had an issue with most halftime shows.

Heck, Dolly Parton must offend you for the way she dresses and talks about her boobs. Figure skaters wear just as little clothing, so do gymnasts. There goes the Olympics for you. Do you have an issue with the outfits of the cheerleaders?

Jennifer Lopez and Shakira brought their culture into their performance in the form of dance and song choices. I loved it. It's nice to break out of our little bubbles and experience something new. In the age of technology, we have access to seeing other cultures in a way we weren't able to before. It's refreshing and makes us better people.

Now let's get into the whole #MeToo and how the show doesn't affect it.

The point of the feminist school of thought is that women should be treated as equals to men. If Adam Levine can be shirtless, thrusting his hips, Shakira and Jennifer Lopez can dress the way they did and dance the way they did. Do you have an issue when Luke Bryan shakes his butt on stage? Nope, okay.

This isn't the exploitation of women. A grown woman is allowed to make the decision to dress and dance any way they please. She's allowed to feel sexy whether that means wearing a pair of jeans and a t-shirt or a sparkly bodysuit.
