An unexpected explosion in Atlantic City today forced at least 40 people out of their homes.

The Press of Atlantic City reports that the explosion happened about 2 p.m. at the Inlet Towers in A.C., where a stove exploded in a 3rd-floor apartment with a woman and her 1-yr-old son inside.

As the two of them escaped their apartment, they left their door open which sent smoke into the hallways.

The fire is currently under investigation, and the 40 residents are due to go back in their homes before the day is over.
