Honestly, I would never have thought to even wonder about that, but right now I don't think anything is off limits when it comes to wondering about your safety as New Jersey slowly begins to reopen.

NJ Advance Media has a daily coronavirus question series, where reporters offer answers to questions about the pandemic being asked by residents in the Garden State.

Recently, Kay Biddle, a marine biologist, oceanographer and professor at Rutgers University (along with Centers for Disease Control) clarified whether or not coronavirus can spread from swimming.

In Biddle's response, she writes, 'There is no evidence that the coronavirus can be spread to people through the water in pools, hot tubs, spas or water play areas. The proper operation and maintenance of these facilities, including their disinfection with chlorine and bromine, should inactivate the virus in the water, according to the CDC.'

But what about ocean water? Well, Biddle says that's trickier to determine because, 'Scientists do not yet know how the coronavirus behaves in salt water'. Biddle's advice as we head into Memorial Day Weekend is for beach swimmers and surfers to exercise caution.

Be smart out there, my beach babies, and be SAFE!
