Car Crashes into Home, Catches Fire in Blackwood, NJ
Emergency crews were on the scene in Blackwood, New Jersey late Saturday night after a car crashed into a home and caught fire.
Boy, did I have a hard time getting around Blackwood in Gloucester Township on Saturday night.
Just before 6 p.m. I got detoured twice because of the Christmas parade, and then later that evening because of an accident on Blenheim-Erial Road.
Blenheim-Erial Road was inaccessible to traffic around 10 p.m. between E. Church Street and Black Horse Pike after a white, 4-door sedan reportedly ran off to road and into a house, according to 6abc.com, where it hit a gas line starting a fire.
Gloucester Township Police Department reports the vehicle swerved, struck a curb, and careened into the house.
The owner of the home was able to extinguish the fire, which officials say likely prevented an explosion, 6abc.com reports.
Gloucester Township Police had the entire road completely blocked off as rescuers responded to the scene of the accident.
The driver of the vehicle and her female passenger were not seriously hurt. The home's occupants, however, were evacuated. The house reportedly sustained quite a bit of damage.
No word on any charges being filed against the driver, but circumstances surrounding the accident remain under investigation.
