Access to the Barrier Island communities of Atlantic City, Brigantine, Longport, Margate and Ventnor remains restricted at this time as per a directive from Governor Chris Christie.

Atlantic County Executive Dennis Levinson is requesting that the governor rescind the restriction for Brigantine, Margate, and Longport after visiting those towns earlier today and conferring with their officials.

Since Ventnor sustained flooding to its sewer system, residents cannot return until the system is operating at full capacity.  According to Ventnor officials, the system is filled with saltwater.  Residents who have any questions may contact city hall at (609) 823-790.

In A.C., many areas of town remain without power and traffic signalization - making it unsafe to return at this time.  Power may be restored by Friday.

Atlantic County and local emergency management officials are working to finalize a re-entry plan for the Barrier Island communities.  Approximately 65,000 Atlantic City Electric customers remain without power throughout Atlantic County.  Officials cannot give the all clear until they can ensure that towns are safe and homes are inhabitable.

To repeat - AT THIS TIME, access to the Barrier Islands remains restricted.
