Vineland Girl Battling Brain Cancer Wishing for Books
The life of 4-year-old Lena Tietjen was recently shaken by a brain cancer diagnosis. But Lena has just one wish: lots of books. And you can donate at a SoJO event this weekend in Vineland.
When Lena fell ill around Halloween, her mother Erin was initially told by doctors that her daughter had a common stomach virus. But she felt something more serious was going on, and insisted on additional tests. Those tests revealed cancer growing in little Lena's brain. Lena had surgery, and will soon undergo chemotherapy and radiation, 6abc.com reports.
Erin Tietjen tells 6abc Lena "loves books so much and loves to be read to. We just want her to be happy and loved, and know that people care about her."
Donated books began being delivered to the family by supporters. There are now so many the family built what they've begun calling "Lena's Library."
The staff at Blizz All-Star Cheer & Dance in Vineland reached out today to let us know they will be accepting book donations for Lena's Library this Sunday during a special Christmas event with SoJO 104.9. Let's all help make Lena's holiday season bright while she fights for her life.
