The Low Down of Buying Unclaimed Mail and Stuff in New Jersey
This is beginning to be a big deal!
People are buying unclaimed mail and other things and making some big scores!
Recently, videos have gone viral of people buying unclaimed packages and then opening them up on camera. Here are a couple of examples:
My own daughter recently called me and said she drove two hours from her home in Kentucky to a store called Treasure Hunt in Evansville, Indiana. The store buys unclaimed merchandise, including unopened packages and sells them for prices as low as 50 cents a package. The kicker: you can't open the package before you buy it!
Here's a video from the store via Facebook:
By the way, my daughter ended up spending $80 and here's a look at what she ended up taking home:
So, what did she end up with:
*Solar Powered Christmas Lights
*Various Small Children's Toys
*A Fake Cactus
*A Mail/Key Holder
*Some Sort of Odd Ford Car Part
*Decorations For Fall
*A Box of Gaiter Masks
*Presenter Stands For Restaurants
*3,100 Disposable Gloves
*15 Jump Ropes
*10 Resistance Bands
*15 Packages of Gauze
*5 Phone Cases
*A Package of Ovulation Test Kits
*A Sweater for a Small Dog
*A Ball - Dog Toy
Unfortunately, the Treasure Hunt store is about a 12 1/2 hour drive from Atlantic City.
We have not been able to find any similar stores in New Jersey where you can physically go in and buy packages that are unopened.
While you can hit area flea markets, it would be unusual to find a lot of truly unopened and unknown items.
Your best bet is to find items being sold online. Two such sites are GovDeals.com and Liquidation.com.
We even found some "deals" on eBay: Check this out.
This is where we give you the caveat: buyer beware! There are a lot of scammers out there. There is really no way of knowing if sales identified as "unclaimed" or "unknown" are really that.
There's an unclaimed luggage store, but to hit that one, you'd have to travel to Alabama. Find out about that one here.
Good luck, buyer beware, and let us know if there's a place near us that we missed!
