Surprise! New Jersey’s Biggest Fire Hydrant is in Wildwood!
Quick! Where's New Jersey's largest fire hydrant?
Not "working fire hydrant" - although it is getting used for what fire hydrants are often used for...
The biggest fire hydrant in New Jersey is in Wildwood, at Wildwood Dog Beach!
(NOTE: We should say we think this is New Jersey's Biggest Fire Hydrant. We're not 100% sure. If we're wrong, please let us know!)
The hydrant sits on the Wildwood Beach, as part of the Dog Park, located just off the Boardwalk at East Maple Avenue.
According to Roadside America, the hydrant was unveiled in 2014 and is adorned with "bones, dog paws, and a squirrel perched on top."
The Facebook page, Wildwood Dog Park and Beach, describes the park as "one of the largest dog beaches in the world." The park is free and is open to dogs (and their people) daily from dawn to dusk. They say dogs are permitted to swim in the water but should do so only with a lifeguard present.
(Hey! Do the Wildwood lifeguards have special training as far as dealing with swimming canines?)
While dogs are welcome at the beach and park, it's noted that dogs are not permitted on the Wildwood Boardwalk.
Have you been to the Wildwood Dog Park and Beach? What did you think? Please let us know in the comments section.
We just love Wildwood, don't you?
