A local crossing guard has been suspended after she contacted the town's mayor about the snow covering her assigned crosswalk.

Gina Bowne, who has been managing a crosswalk in Runnemede for 16 years, was cited for insubordination after texting Mayor Nick Kappatos to try and get her crosswalk cleared of snow so that children and others could safely cross. Bowne tells 6abc.com she was simply asking for help.

Bowne says normally she would contact Sergeant Murray at the Runnemede Police Department, but he wasn't working that particular day, so she didn't know what else to do, feeling the snow situation constituted an emergency.

Parents are now rallying behind Bowne, demanding her two-day suspension be overturned.
