Think breakdancing at the Olympics was the most interesting competition of the summer? Think again. There's about to be a massive race of rubber ducks in the waters off Margate, New Jersey!
The yellow rubber duck brings on immediate smiles. It's the one of the friendliest looking icons in history, so it's no surprise that someone decide to put hundreds of them together for an event.
Later this month, rubber ducks will invade a portion of Margate's bay, all in the name of fun and prize, and there's NO WAY I'm missing this, lol.
Massive Amount of Rubber Ducks to Be Released into Margate, NJ Bay
Coming up on Sunday, August 25th, The Margate Business Association is hosting the 4th Annual Duck Derby!
A swarm of yellow plastic bath toys will dominate bay in what's bound to be one of the funniest, most charming festivities of the whole Jersey Shore summer season.
This quack-a-palooza will commence at Scott's Dock at Amherst Avenue and Washington Avenue on Margate's bay side where interested participants can purchase a rubber duck to go into the water and compete in a race.
The ducks, which are reportedly weighted to encourage their forward momentum once in the water, will float on until they reach the end of an enclosed course.
The first duck to reach the finish line will be crowned the winner. The owners of the Top 3 ducks to complete the derby will reportedly receive Visa gift cards.
Margate, NJ's Annual Rubber Duck Derby: How to Race, Where to Watch
If you want to claim a duck to race in the Derby (sponsored by Margate Gardens Wine & Spirits) on Sunday, August 25th, be at Scott's Dock at 11 a.m. You just have to buy a raffle ticket with a corresponding rubber duck.
If you just want to watch and take in the absurdity, you're invited to cheer from Washington Ave. pier. Ducks are released to begin their journey at 11:30 a.m.
