Rare ‘Super Blue Blood Moon’ Coming for First Time in 150 Years

There are full moons, super moons, and, even occasionally, blood moons, but when's the last time you saw a super blue blood moon?  The answer is never. But you will soon.

South Jersey sky watchers are in for a special treat when a lunar trifecta fills the night skies: a super blue blood moon” will  appear on January 31st for the first time in 150 years.

It’s the third in a string of recent “supermoons,” when the moon is closer to the Earth in its orbit and appears about 14% brighter.

According to Space.com, It is also a "blue moon," which is the second full moon that happens in the same calendar month. The month's first moon happened on January 1st.

It all coincides with a total lunar eclipse, which is called a "blood moon" when the moon is in the Earth's shadow and takes on a reddish tint.

The last "Blue Blood Moon" was recorded March 31, 1866.

According to NASA,  the eclipse will be visible in South Jersey before sunrise on the 31st.
