Heads-up if you use the 42 Freeway late at night -- the road will be closed several nights this week as work continues at Interstate 295.

Starting tonight, August 31st, through Thursday morning, September 3rd, the NJDOT will close one northbound lane on Route 42 at Interstate 295 at 8:00PM. A second lane will close at 10:00 and then all northbound lanes will close at 11PM until 5AM. The closure is necessary as crews demolish an old I-295 overpass.

When the road is closed, a simple detour will be in place: motorists will use Exit 1B for I-295, then stay to the left to get back onto Route 42.

In a press release, Camden County Freeholder Ian Leonard said, "motorists need to be mindful of this week’s closures on Route 42, which is one of busiest roadways in South Jersey. Throughout the 295 construction, please stay prepared for traffic pattern changes and be observant of instructions on the electronic message boards. Motorists will want to plan their trips over the next four days carefully reviewing these new closures.”
