Union County's, Sydney McLaughlin, barely clears her first Olympic hurdle but will continue to represent USA in Rio!

According to Sydney, once she finished fifth in her 400-meter hurdles heat, she thought everything was over. In this NJ.com article, it seemed like she was just about ready to pack her bags and head back home to Union County.

Turns out, although she isn't one of the three automatic qualifiers, she remained part of the six fastest runners that will advance to Tuesday's semifinals!

And, she's only 17-YEARS-OLD! How many people can say that?

Sydney admits to having a pretty crazy ride ever since she broke a world junior record at the Olympic trials on July 10. She became the YOUNGEST American track and field Olympian since 1972. Since then, nothing has been the same especially after becoming Gatorade's female athlete of the year AND attending the ESPYs.

At least when they ask her the classic question, "so what did you do this summer?" Her answer will be far from boring!

Keep on kicking a** girl! We'll be rooting for you!
