Heads up for those of you in line for a drivers license renewal.  New national security identification standards will be implemented in New Jersey next month.  On May 7, New Jersey will become the newest state to begin issuing federally compliant driver’s licenses under the Real ID Act.

The Department of Homeland Security is setting out to limit fraud at Motor Vehicle Centers and ensure that you are who you say you are.

The Tru-ID licenses will not increase in cost, and will be valid for eight years rather than four.  Tru-ID application forms will replace the current 6-point identification protocol.

Advanced facial recognition software is being installed at motor vehicles centers to thwart a repeat of 9/11 when terrorist airplane hijackers abused the system across five states to carry out their attacks.
