We love a clap back.

Last week, I told you about how Nettie's House of Spaghetti announced a ban on children under 10 from dining there.  The Tinton Falls restaurant blamed the controversial decision on a lack of space for high chairs, messes, and kids running around the restaurant.

Some people applauded the restaurant, claiming that kids have no place in that kind of atmosphere, and other parents were annoyed that their well-behaved children were not allowed to eat there.

The story made national headlines, but Nettie's has been silent ever since.  They haven't posted anything new on social media or responded to any comments from news outlets.  Comments were even turned off on the Facebook post announcing the ban.

But, another restaurant has a lot to say about Nettie's new policy.  Applebees responded to the child ban by offering kids free meals at some of their New Jersey locations.

One can argue that comparing Applebee's and Nettie's House of Spaghetti is like comparing apples to oranges.  Applebee's has always been a casual family-friendly establishment.  Nettie's offers a more formal dining experience.  Still, the offer comes from a good place.

Here's what VP of operations Kurt Pahlitzsch said about the promotion:

“Applebee's is all about families and kids so after we saw the Nelly’s article, we were inspired to do something that would remind our customers that KIDS ARE WELCOME at our restaurants. It's why we're offering a Kids Eat Free promotion to help families out over the school break.”
