Mom Fights for School Bus Cameras After Son Was Beaten
A Jersey Shore mother wants to make sure ALL kids are safe during their ride to and from school. She asks you to sign her petition. Here's the story about her middle-schooler being bullied, punched, and choked.
Here is the story in her own words:
"On October 28, 2019 I received a phone call from my son while I was at work. He just turned 11 and is in 6th grade. When I answered I was having a hard time understanding him because he was crying hysterically. He told me that another student punched him in his face which led to him being on the floor in the back of the bus where he was then choked. The other students on the bus are yelling 'fight, fight, fight' and then proceed to video tape my son getting choked. No one stepped in to help. The only reason the other child stopped choking my son because the bus had stopped at my son's bus stop. My son ran off the bus crying while everyone was making fun of him, yet the bus driver was unaware the entire time.
The child said his reasoning for doing this to my son was because my son was talking to a girl he liked in the hallway about gym.
I immediately called the school and transportation. Transportation wrote up an incident right away but the principal did not get back to me until the following morning. The child that attacked my son was on the bus Tuesday morning. The principal did act on it immediately Tuesday morning. He was able to get the video from another students phone of the attack, which I am unable to see. He also did state that my son did nothing wrong. Although he was unable to tell me what the student's consequences were, I know that he got suspended. However, he was back on the bus the Friday after the incident. (2 1/2 days suspension)
That is not enough. These busses need cameras.
This type of behavior is not only unacceptable but extremely concerning. I understand kids get in fights, however this was way beyond that. If they were adults that kid would have been charged with attempted murder.
I’m asking you to please share my story and my petition. The more signatures and shares the better. I’m not just doing this for my son, all kids deserve to feel safe. I’m willing to do whatever it takes."
