The iconic Jitney could be running routes from Atlantic City through Margate on July 4, if everything goes according to plan.

That's right! The Jitney may be extending its route, according to Shore News Today.

On Thursday, members of the Atlantic City Jitney Association have updated their proposal to service residents in Ventnor and Margate areas, in hopes to have it approved.

Currently, the iconic bus has been in service for a century but business has declined over the last several years. Since it has expanded to Avalon, Stone Harbor and Sea Isle City, Jitney is now looking at Downbeach.

According to Shore News Today, the goal is to keep people from driving after they've gone out in AC and had a couple of drinks. Personally, as one of these people, I think this is a pretty great idea!

And, so far, Ventnor is on board for the project!

Just think of the benefits:

  • Jitney bus stops every three blocks from Margate to AC casinos
  • Help Ventnor and Margate business areas
  • Will pick up pedestrians along the way (obv.)
  • Lower the amount of drunk driving
  • ...save money!!

Currently, Commissioner Maury Blumberg reportedly supports the idea, but needs specifics, like the bus stops, amount of jitneys and etc.

Hopefully, this is something that follows through! I currently live in Margate, and on weekends do like to party it up in AC. A roundtrip via cab literally costs me $40 on average, and obviously driving is out of the question if I'm drinking!

I would gladly be in favor of paying $2.25 both ways, versus a $40 cab ride ANY DAY!

So, I am so completely for this! *fingers crossed*
