New Jersey’s 10 Best Old-school Bowling Alleys
Last verified: March 2026
In a world where big corporations seem to be taking over everything, one industry seems to be doing just fine on its own in New Jersey: bowling.
Why Old-school Bowling Alleys Still Thrive in New Jersey
From one end of the Garden State to the other, lots of mom-and-pop bowling alleys seem to be holding their own. And many have been around for decades.
Sure, some have been remodeled and added gimmicks like glow-in-the-dark bowling and whatnot, but when you walk into one of these gems, you are instantly transported back in time (in a good way).
My Most Humbling Night at a New Jersey Bowling Alley
Talking about bowling reminds me of one of my more infamous stories. Not that long ago, I bowled a 54. Yes, a 54. Not because I was trying to be that bad. It happened naturally. I hadn't bowled for several years before that embarrassing game. And it showed. The young kids in the lane next to me easily got into the triple digits without trying too hard.
Anyway, now that I've bared my bowling soul (and you probably got a good laugh), I decided to do a deep-dive and find the ten best old-school bowling alleys in New Jersey. Some of them aren't all fancy and shiny -- and that's the point. You know what an old bowling alley is going to look and feel like and these places deliver exactly that experience.

If you’re serious about bowling, beer, and bruised egos (like the time I bowled a 54), these 10 spots prove old-school bowling in New Jersey is alive and well.
