NJ Man Arrested After Allegedly Sending Explicit Photos to ‘Teen girl’
Officials say a North Jersey man thought he was sending explicit photos of himself to an underage girl. In reality, he was chatting with an undercover law enforcement officer in South Jersey.
And now he's sitting in jail.
39-year-old Fred Newman of Montclair has been charged with second-degree attempted sexual assault, two counts of third-degree attempted sending obscene material to a minor, and third-degree attempted endangering the welfare of a child.
Details of the Undercover Investigation
The Camden County Prosecutor's Office says on December 12th of last year, a man, later identified as Newman, began communicating online with someone who he believed was a 14-year-old girl. That "girl" was actually a detective from the Camden County Prosecutor's Office's High Tech Crimes Unit.
According to authorities, during the conversation, "Newman sent multiple explicit photos and videos to the girl and expressed that he wished to engage in sexual conduct."
After an investigation, detectives ultimately identified Newman as the man from the online chat and he was charged on February 3rd.
Arrest and Custody Information
Last week, the U.S. Marshals Service New York/New Jersey Regional Fugitive Task Force located Newman in Newark and took him into custody. He is currently being held in the Camden County Correctional Facility.
Anyone with information about this case is asked to contact Sgt. John Cochran of the Camden County Prosecutor's Office at (856) 225-8826.
The public is reminded that charges are accusations and all persons are considered innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
