Cape May Brewing Co. is Buying NJ’s Flying Fish Brewing Co.
Two of New Jersey's major craft beer companies will soon become one as Cape May Brewing Company announced Monday that it is buying Flying Fish Brewing Company.
Calling it a union of two New Jersey craft brewers, Cape May Brewing Company said the sale is a 'strategic investment' that allows the company to increase manufacturing and warehouse space, boost production and add manufacturing capabilities.
Flying Fish Brewing Company is the older of the two craft breweries, opening in 1995. It started in Cherry Hill and moved to its Somerdale location in 2012. Flying Fish is the largest craft brewery in New Jersey.
According to their Wikipedia biography, "Cape May Brewing Company started in 2011, with three guys making one beer in a 1,500-square-foot space" and has grown by leaps and bounds.
Now, they’ve got over 32,000 square feet of space at the Cape May Airport and several hundred flagship, seasonal, and small-batch brews under their umbrella, distributed throughout all of New Jersey, Pennsylvania, and Delaware.
Their original space in Rio Grande is now dedicated to experimental brewing and their award-winning Tasting Room, with a separate, industrial brewing facility across the street.
No sale price was announced for Flying Fish Brewing Company.
“This is a massive milestone for both Cape May and Flying Fish, who we’ve long admired as a true pioneer of craft brewing in the Garden State since its founding in 1995,” says Cape May Brewing Company CEO and Co-founder Ryan Krill.
“We are thrilled to expand our product portfolio and are approaching this acquisition with a focus on our core values, passion for brewing, and commitment to serving our customers with the highest quality brews."
“We are excited for these new opportunities, and grateful for the teams and fans of both brands who have supported the New Jersey craft beer community over the years,” says Krill. “This may be a brand-new chapter in our company history, but it’s one that is rooted in the same values that have driven our commitment to quality, people, and refreshing brews since our founding in 2011.”
