U.S. hospitals are adding laughing gas as a new option for child labor besides natural birth and getting an epidural.

Yes, laughing gas - that stuff most commonly found in dentists office is now being used to help with labor pains.

The Cut reports, nitrous oxide (it's real name) was used during labor back between the mid-1800s through the 1950s. Now it looks like its making a comeback. Apparently, laughing gas is better alternative since it relaxes your body unlike pain killers which could potentially have side effects (although there's no adverse effects).

It is a great alternative to have since more women are opting for natural births over epidurals, and midwives are happy about it!

If you are expecting, just keep in mind that laughing gas isn't as strong and doesn't take away the pain. The pain is only masked because you're laughing your head off.

So, if you or someone you know is expecting see if your hospital offers it. 300 hospitals are offering it, and more are expecting to soon!
