Yeah, it’s summertime … but the only thing you want melted is cheese on your burger, not your siding!

That’s why my friends at East Coast Roofing, Siding & Windows want to remind you it’s a good idea to keep your grill at least 10 feet away from the outside of your house. Oh, and your hoses and valves could use your eyes, too, to make sure there’s no damage from the winter. I’m so guilty of leaving my hose outside in the freezing cold.

I asked East Coast’s Shawn Stiteler for a few more tips on keeping my home in tip-top shape for the summer, and he gave me some awesome advice.

Shawn, that icky green residue on my roof and siding seems to come back during summer. What can I do about that?

Give it a good power washing if you have one. If not, contact a reputable power washing company.

Sometimes when I water my lawn, I notice what almost looks like red staining on my siding. Any idea what that could be?

You may have rust in your water source. Adjust your sprinklers to spray away from your home’s exterior as much as possible.

Summer thunderstorms can wreak havoc on roof shingles and siding, right?

If you see any loose trim or shingles, it’s best to have them replaced as soon as possible before they become a bigger problem. It’s also wise to secure any patio furniture, like umbrellas, so they don’t go flying against your siding and risk damage when the weather is bad.

It’s an experience like this that makes East Coast Roofing, Siding & Windows one of the most trusted names in South Jersey for more than 30 years. If you call, they’ll show up.
