Eagles’ Corey Clement Recognized For His Work In The Community
On Friday, Corey Clement became the second Philadelphia Eagles player to be recognized by the National Football League Players' Association for his work in the community. Clement was named the NFLPA Week 8 Community MVP after helping lead a writing contest for students to create books about how to resolve bullying. The contest winners each received a $500 prize and they will have their books published. Also, all the students got a surprise Zoom call from Corey Clement.
This is the second straight year that the Eagles Running Back has teamed up with the National Youth Foundation for its Student Book Scholars contest. Over 100 students from 31 different states have written and illustrated pieces about anti-bullying; according to the NFLPA these opportunities are "providing a much-needed creative outlet in hopes of empowering children surrounding an important issue."
Corey Clement commented about his selection as the NFLPA Week 8 Community MVP:
“It is a true honor to be named the NFLPA Community MVP....As an NFL player, I have the opportunity to bring attention to the causes most important to me -- literacy, anti-bullying and music education. I feel that it is important to support grassroots non-profits that are led by Black leaders. - My activism, along with community support, allows me to become more of an effective link in the chain of change,”
As part of Clement receiving this recognition, the NFLPA will be making a donation to the National Youth Foundation worth $10,000.
In 2019, Corey Clement also gave back to his alma matter, Glassboro High School in New Jersey, when he presented the football team with a $5,000 Super Bowl Honor Roll grant.
Clement is in his fourth season with the Philadelphia Eagles after being an undrafted free agent who made the roster as a rookie in 2017. Clement has eight total touchdowns and 643 Rushing Yards in 39 games with Philadelphia during his NFL career. Eagles Safety Rodney McLeod was the first Philadelphia player of the 2020 season to be recognized for his community work earlier this year.
