Popular teen clothing chain Delia's said Friday it will file for Chapter 11 bankruptcy, and begin liquidating merchandise immediately.

Delia's has been hurt in recent years by shopping mall expansions by competitors like Forever 21 and H&M. Delia's prices for teen apparel have remained more expensive by comparison, with denim jeans running as high as $50.

Sales at Delia's have been in decline for the last four years. Last year, Tracy Garnder, who the CEO who rejuvenated J. Crew, was hired to do the same for the Delia's brand, but it's been a fruitless effort.

Delia's currently has locations at area malls including Hamilton Mall in Mays Landing.
